Effect of Load Orientation on the Performance of a Four-Lobe Bearing

Abstract: 

It is observed that among multi-lobe bearings, a four-lobe bearing possesses good stability
characteristics. Sometimes the line of action of the load does not pass through the axis of a bearing
and is shifted on either side by a few degrees. Load orientation affects the performance of a bearing.
The effect of load orientation on the stability of a four-lobe bearing has been analyzed in this paper.
The stability of the bearing is observed to improved for the negative values of load orientation i.e.
when the load line is shifted in the direction of rotation.
